The list of underdogs overachieving in London has been amazing, and the 2025 Wimbledon WTA Upsets have provided not only shock value, but betting value… Duh! Who am I to point out underdogs? Thinkdog? Yeah, look it up!
Anyway, since the Main Draw of the 2025 Wimbledon Tournament was filled on Sunday, Monday kicked off a wild two days with 64 matches taking place on the WTA side of the ledger. As you know, I only cover the WTA.
So, let’s talk about these 2025 Wimbledon WTA upsets!
Day 1
Although Ons Jabeur was unable to finish her match, Viktoiya Tomova was on her way to kicking the Tunisian’s ass, regardless if Jabeur was healthy enough. Tomova was a +420 Underdog, and the barking kept going.
Eva Lys was a slight underdog at +105 against Yue Yuan, and the German native won their match in three sets.
Sonay Kartal, which was posted by yours truly here at the pub, which you can Link to Here, upset Jelena Ostapenko as a +150 underdog.
Cristina Bucsa was listed at +130 against A.A Todoni and the Spaniard advanced in straight sets.
Olivia Gadecki had her match canceled against Grett Minnen, and the Aussie was upset in the first round by Argentinian Solana Sierra. Sierra was listed at +160.
Peyton Stearns was favored against Laura Siegemund, and the German native upset the American in straight sets, listed at +150.
Also posted here, Darma Galfi was a slight underdog against Harriett Dart, and the Hungarian native got us the upset win at +105.
A loss for me posted on Day 1, Viktorija Golubic lost to Ann Li, and the American was listed at +130.
Katie Boulter provided the last upset of Day 1 after defeating Paula Badosa in three sets. The Brit was +105, and that was actually quite a great match!
THAT’S JUST THE FIRST DAMN DAY OF WIMBELDON!
Let’s hit the courts for Day 2, and wait for the biggest finale underdog we might see in this entire event when I am done…
Day 2
Katie Volynets started the second day of main draw action with another upset. Tatjana Maria was listed at -225, and Volynets took her down as a +200 underdog!
So much hype surrounded Iva Jovic coming into Wimbledon, and all she did was FLOP OUT OF LONDON! The American did not deserve that much respect, and Suzan Lamens was a +260 underdog… Upset special!
Another massive upset was provided by Slovenian Veronika Erjavec. Erjavec had to get through qualifying and landed a 26-seed Marta Kostyuk in the opening round. Kostyuk won the first set and Erjavec won the match… AS A +625 UNDERDOG! Wooooo! Man, I love that shit!
As soon as Erjavec finished off Kostyuk, Jessica Pegula got sent home by Elisabetta Cocciaretto… AS A +900 UNDERDOG! Pegula flopped, and wait for the other American on this list that flopped harder than Pegula today!
Irina Begu upset Kaja Juvan as a +325 Underdog.
And then my call happened. The Siniakova vs Zheng match got moved to today, and I had Siniakova and the Over posted because she owns the Chinese native. It continued in London, and at +180, Sinikova took out Zheng outright!
Barbora Krejcikova ended up being listed as an underdog against Alexandra Eala at +115.
Yulia Starodubtseva upset Wildcard Francesco Jones at +115.
Elsa Jacquemot went off at +130 against Magda Linette, and the qualifier won their match in three sets.
Anastasia Zakharova provided a nice upset as a +430 underdog against Victoria Azarenka, and then the unthinkable happened.
COCO GAUFF… Say it ain’t so? Not only the flop, but the hard exit stage left out of London in the first round!
At +440, Dayana Yastremska was supposed to be a victim of the American in a Major, but the only victim in the building was Coco after the straight-sets beatdown!
Again, I will say, we’re only two days into the third Major of 2025, and what a list of upsets we have already seen! Stay tuned, because I will update this throughout the event.
Day 3
The most jam-packed day of underdogs we have seen in some time happened on the third day of play at Wimbledon.
There were 16 matches played on Wednesday, and there were 8 Underdogs who pulled off upsets!
The first upset of the day came when Cristina Bucsa wiped out Donna Vekic in straight sets. The Spaniard was listed at +320!
Darma Galfi was up next at +225 against Beatriz Haddad Maiz, and the favored Brazilian was swept off the court!
Laura Siegemund was listed at +275 against Leylah Fernandez, and the favored Canadian was swept out of the event.
One of the big shocks of the day was the upset of Katie Boulter. Boulter was heavily favored against Sorana Sierra, who had only played two total matches on grass in her career… Against a Brit, on Grass! The +440 Argentinian clay specialist overachieved and took out Boulter in three sets.
Noami Osaka was originally listed at +110, and I had her posted to win here on the site. That line fell to even money, and -110 at some sites, but Osaka was originally listed as a dog against Kat Sainiakova.
Diane Parry provided the next upset of the day, beating Diana Shnaider. Parry closed at +300 and swept the Russian out of London.
Another massive upset happened when Jasmine Paolini folded like a lawn chair. After the Italian won the opening set against Kamilla Rakhimova, Paolini fell apart, and a +550 underdog was advancing to the third round. Paolini’s loss makes it four of the top-5 seeds eliminated from Wimbledon on only day 3!
One Brit who welcomed the underdog role was successful, as Emma Raducanu swept Marketa Vondrousova out of the tournament. Raducanu was listed at +170 against the favored Czech, but Aryna Sabalenka is in store in the third round!
What could possibly happen on Day 4? Let’s see!
Only three underdogs came through with upsets on the fourth day of main draw action.
The first one happened early when Zeynep Sonmez, listed at +525, took down X. Wang..
Hailey Baptiste was a slight underdog against Mboko, and the +125 American pulled off the upset over the upstart Canadian.
For some reason, Sofia Kenin was listed at -255 to defeat Bouzas Maneiro, but that didn’t happen. The Spaniard swept the favored American out of London, and that was the last of the upsets on Day 4.
Day 5
The upsets continued on Day 5, as half of the eight matches were won by underdogs.
Solana Sierra continued her run at Wimbledon, and at +135, the Argentinian upset Cristina Bucsa in three sets.
Naomi Osaka was listed at -230 to get past Anastasia Pavyluchenkova, but the Russian wasn’t in the mood. Pavs took down the Japanese native in three sets at +200.
Another American fell to the underdog story, as Madison Keys, listed at -625, blew her chance at a Major title, getting swept by Laura Siegemund.
Elise Mertens provided the final upset of the day over Elina Svitolina, listed as a +170 underdog.
Moving on to Day 6
Two upsets from the eight matches on this day happened after Bouzas Maneiro did it again!
Jessica Bouzas Maneiro took down took out Dayana Yastremska in three sets, and the biggest upset of the day happened when Clara Tauson took out Elena Rybakina.
At +410, Tauson wiped the floor with the Kazakhstani, sweeping her way to the Fourth Round.
