Palermo FC Chasing Return to Serie A

Palermo FC are chasing a return to Serie A, and it’s been 10 years running since the Pinks have been in Top Flight Italian football.

While nearly every organization has a history, Palermo FC origins back to before 1900, although they have never won a Scudetto (Serie A League title).

After the 2016-2017 Serie A campaign concluded, Palermo was in the 19th spot and being relegated to Serie B.

After two season’s in second tier Serie B, Palermo was further relegated to Serie D because of monetary inneficiencies, and so many managerial and ownership movements.

In 2019, a new club, named Società Sportiva Dilettantistica Palermo, ran through the Serie D campaign and were quickly promoted to Serie C.

At the end of the 2021-22 Serie C campaign, Palermo earned a spot in the playoffs, and then won their way back to Serie B!

Palermo FC has been playing in Serie B now four years, this being the fifth in 2026-27, and what a start the club has had this year!

With 3 wins in 3 outings to start the 2026 Serie B campaign, Palermo are chasing a big return to Serie A after a 10-year absence from top-flight.

Le Aquile have 9 points and sit atop the Serie B table, but, of course, there is a long way to go and plenty of football left to play. In addition to that, Palermo FC are cruising in Coppa Italia. Bologna and Palermo are set for the next round clash in the Italian Cup, which will restart in December after the current round ends.

Palermo has called upon the services of Filippo Inzaghi to run the club, and we all know what he would give to lead a club back to Serie A!
Inzahgi was just helping Pisa gain their way back to Serie A, after the 2025 campaign, and he left for Palermo where he has been since June, 2025.

So far, so good!

Can the Pink and Blacks soar like an eagle back to top flight Italian football?

Start the clock, because only time will tell if Palermo FC can make their way back to Serie A!
